Just a quick few lines to thank everyone who made it to the gig in Whelan’s last week. It being a week ago I can hear you asking, “Why the hell haven’t you written a blog before this?” and rightly so. The truth of the matter is that I’ve been in bed with the flu (not the swine type). I think the whole country has a dose on them. We should organise a simultaneous national cough and see how we do on the rector scale. Might even make it in to the Guinness book of records, which in return, I’ve been told, you receive a life long supply of Guinness. Now if that’s not enough of an incentive for you I don’t know what is!! Thankfully I’m on the mend and with the help of a few hot whiskeys last night, I’m beginning to feel myself again.
The Whelan’s gig turned out to be a great night. Being my first Saturday headline gig I was feeling a bit anxious before the show. Though, that was short lived, as I saw the venue gradually fill while I was catching the support act in the form of the brilliant Maeve O Boyle (Glasgow) and her band play their set. By the time I took the stage the place was buzzing and everyone seemed up for a party and a bit of dancing, which is just how we like it! My new song “Something I Don’t Know” went down really well as did the old favourites, with “Bring The Dance” causing it’s usual frenzy. The band are really starting to gel and the gig was by far my favourite to to play to date.
It’s off to Glasgow on Fri morning for me, to return the favour to Maeve. I’ll be great catching up with my old college mates there, and you never know, we might even have a tipple or two!!
We’re also gearing up for our tour of Egypt at the moment, which is due to kick off on the 24th of Sept and runs till the 6th of Oct. Really excited about that, plus i think i could do with a bit of sunshine, as seen as there’s nothing but rain here. I’m actually writing a new song at the moment called “Rainy Day In June”, seems to sum up the whole shitty weather thing, I’m sure you’d agree, if your Irish!
Anyway, hope you all had a ball in Whelan’ s and look forward to seeing you all real soon.
Simon.
